Placement Wrap Up – Lindsay

Jina and I had two teachers, so here are the two wrap ups:

Teacher: Mrs.Ben David
Subject: English
Description: Initially, Mrs.Ben David asked us to create a website for her to use as a class resource. We created a Google Site and then we put it aside to allow Mrs.Ben David to think of the most efficient uses. Afterwards, we met again and were asked to teach Mrs.Ben David how to use Prezi and to help her develop an assignment for her grade 10 English class.
Technology: Google sites, Prezi
Possible uses in other classes/subject areas: The website is specific to Mrs.Ben David and we did not create a specific assignment to go with it, so it would not be able to be used for other classes.

Teacher: Ms. Blejman-Kantor
Subject: Spanish
Technology used: Prezi, Jing, VoiceThread, Google docs
Description: Ms. Blejman-Kantor asked us to help her incorporate technology into her grade 11 Spanish ISP. Through our discussion, we wanted to identify which tools would not only be beneficial to the Spanish students for their isp, but a basic presentation introducing them to what they can create with web tools. Using Prezi, Jina and I found tutorial videos for Prezi, Jing, VoiceThread and Google docs. Once we taught the students how to use these tools, I used my resources from the ISP I completed last year for the grade 11 Spanish course to create a sample presentation for the new assignment. The web tool presentation is very basic and can be altered to be used in any class.
We sat down with Ms.Blejman-Kantor and altered the assignment and marking scheme, making it a very simple task: “You must use AT LEAST ONE Web Tool in your presentation, and you must use Jing or Voicethread to prerecord yourself reading one of the two poems you decide to focus on.
Possible uses in other classes/subject areas: The general how-to Prezi can be used in any class that needs the instruction, all that needs to happen is changing the title on the presentation.

Web Tools used: Google Sites, Prezi, Google Docs, Jing, Voicethread

Placement Portfolio (Alan)

Teacher: Ms. Hanna
Subject: English
Technology used: Blogger, Google Sites, Prezi, Jing

Description:

Jenny, Noah, and I were placed with Ms. Hanna for our teacher placements.
Ms. Hanna requested that we set up a website and a blog for her students to view and comment on various posts.
Jenny was in charge of the website portion, Noah was in charge of the Prezi portion, and I was in charge of the blog portion of this teacher placement.
I chose to use blogger because it is one of the more user friendly blogging platforms and it can be linked with Google Sites.

Possible uses in other classes/subject areas:

Blogger can be used in all subject areas. As you can see with the video (link below), a teacher can easily implement Blogs into their curriculum. For example, a History teacher can tell his/her students to post a comment regarding group placements. The same History teacher can tell his/her students to post a reading response. Whatever the case, Blogger can enhance students’ learning experience.

Instructional Video:

I have decided to display my portfolio with Jing. I have voiced a video of the operation of Ms. Hanna’s up and  running blog.

Placement wrap up (Jina)

Teacher: Ms. Blejman- Kantor
Subject: Spanish
Technology used: prezi, jing, voice thread, google docs

Description: Ms. Blejman-Kantor asked us to help her incorporate technology into her grade 11 Spanish ISP. We made a presentation about all the  different web tools we learned in class and taught it to the class. We made the presentation on prezi, we gathered all the other web tools and put it into one prezi. In the prezi, we put tutorial videos of prezi, jing, voice thread and google docs. Lindsay also made a prezi presentation to show how the students could use prezi for their ISP. She made a presentation on her last year’s ISP on prezi and presented to the class.

Possible uses in other classes/subject areas: This can be used in other classes/subject areas for sure because a lot of our projects include presentation and these web tools are for presentations. Any other projects can incorporate these web tools in the projects.

Teacher: Mrs. Ben David
Subject: English
Technology used: Google sites, prezi

Description: Mrs. Ben David wanted us to make a website for her class and also teach her how to use prezi. We made a google web site for her and added her to be the owner so she can edit her website. Lindsay and I went to her office and helped her learn how to use prezi and helped her prepare a prezi presentation for her English class.

Possible uses in other classes/subject areas: This can be used in any other classes/subject areas because it’s just class website and any subject areas can make a website for their class.

Stevenson and Yoav – Geography Google Earth Assignment

We were working with Ms. Papernick and her grade 9 geography class.

We were told to create a geography project that would incorporate their current unit which was ecozones and technology. So we created a project that would have the students creating their own province/ territory which would have the same characteristics of the ecozone that you were given. The students would also have to submit a description as to why they picked that spot and the relative characteristics between the two provinces’ ecozones. The students would then have to create at least three cities and describe the three cities’ major industry and the reason. The project was successful and the students understood the concept really fast.

We used Google Earth for the entire project.

This could probably be only used in this class because it was created for specifically this class. But Google Earth can be used for other social science classes.

Placement Wrap-Up (John)

Teacher: Mrs Elso-Ponzo

Subject: History

Technology Used

Description: Among Mrs Elso-Ponzo’s requests, she asked for more extensive Diigo training and an introduction on how to use Windows Moviemaker. Eventually however, I suggested to her to set up a website. I became in charge of that and it became the focus of my work. Because she didn’t have any criteria in mind, I made it relatively general use.

This is a quick video I made giving a walk-through of the site.

And these are links to a series of tutorial videos on how to do things with Google Sites

Google sites is a very versatile tool that can be used in a multitude of classes because of helps teachers with universal issues such as reminding students of work due. Links to useful websites can also be posted on the website and students can grab assignment sheets from the website as well.

Placement Wrap Up (Akiva and David)

Teacher: Dr Burt

Subject: Biology and Chemistry

Technology used: Powerpoint, google docs, diigo, jing, learn360

David and I were assigned to Dr. Burt for both chemistry and biology.  Our project was to present technology to the class that would help them with their ISPs, as well as any other assignments they have in the future.  We presented the technology in powerpoint format.  The technology we presented was:

-Diigo – for organizing their research and sharing the research with their group.

-Learn360 – for an alternate way of getting information when they cannot find what they are looking for on Google or Youtube.

-Jing – for more creative projects that require, for example, a tutorial.

-Google Docs – for an easier way to work on an assignment with a group.  Instead  of everyone sending their information to one person and that person putting the information together, the whole group can collectively work on the assignment.

The technology presented in these classes can be used in any class/subject area.  They are useful tools that make research easier and more organized, and make presentations more creative.  We encouraged the students we presented to to use these resources not only for their ISPs but for any assignment they get, in high school or post-secondary education.
